The Russell Partnership: case studies: Leisure Events & Destinations: MCC:
Marylebone Cricket Club
The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) own and operate Lords Cricket Ground at St John’s Wood, London.
Lord's has long been seen as the 'home of cricket' and the game's spiritual headquarters' and remains, to this day, perhaps the most important single place in world cricket.
The MCC remain the guardian of both the Laws and the Spirit of Cricket, and perform a key role in promoting cricket - both in Britain and elsewhere.
In addition, Lord's is the home of Middlesex County Cricket Club, the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the European Cricket Council (ECC). It is also the setting for the state-of-the-art MCC Indoor School, the unrivalled MCC Library, and the world-famous MCC Museum - where exhibits include the Wisden Trophy and, of course, the Ashes urn.
The Russell Partnership was commissioned to support the MCC to provide project management to ensure a smooth transition to an in house controlled operation after a 10 year external contractor. This support included all aspects of the food and beverage delivery, procurement and development of a sustainable sales and marketing strategy.
The Partnership provided project management support and worked with the MCC management team to put in place a comprehensive project plan to ensure a smooth transition to in-house control.
The commission also involved providing specialist advice to draw up the major match day catering concession contracts and creating tender and procurement support for EPOS booking systems.
The Partnership supported in defining the sales and marketing strategy for the conference and events department. This included all areas of planning, recruitment, and pricing.
This support also extended to a member of the Partnership interim team actioning the plan to bridge the gap prior to the appointment of a Sales and Marketing Director, resulting in the achieving projected sales in line with the year’s sales and revenue targets.
