James is an experienced hospitality practitioner and consultant, with over 20 years’ experience in the industry. His background has predominantly been within food and beverage and he has worked for and with a variety of hotels, restaurants, bars and pubs. Throughout his earlier management career, which included time with Intercontinental Hotels Group and Tragus Restaurants, James was responsible for multiple-site management, new business openings and managing significant organisational change.
James established his own consultancy business several years ago and has worked with a variety of independent and national hospitality, education and care organisations to review their operations and processes; successfully managing projects and supporting business improvements across a range of functions. This includes business analysis and development; as well as developing core strategy, policies and procedures, people and quality processes.
As a senior lecturer and consultant at Sheffield Hallam University, James shares his industry expertise through teaching core topics of strategic management, supply chain management and operations management. He has also worked on a variety of internal and external projects, which includes the development of a new hospitality school overseas. Qualified to master’s level in Organisation Development and Consultancy, James is currently furthering his education through studying a part-time PhD exploring the factors that influence success and failure in new restaurants.
